Unfortunately, I had to miss the one local genealogy library lock-in that occurred many years ago and I still considered it one of the “missed opportunities” that I kick myself over.
I was reminded of these fun events when ConferenceKeeper.org posted about recently adding a bunch of these events to the site, Looking for a Local Library Lock-In? and includes several flyers for the newly added events (I love seeing how a group visually entices us to attend their genealogy-related event).
There is a large lock-in event spearhead in Waco, TX which provides programming to participating libraries and genealogical societies …
The Waco-McLennan County Library Genealogy Center, in cooperation with
the Central Texas Genealogical Society, will host the 17th Annual Genealogy
Lock-In in celebration of Family History Month. This event takes place Friday,
October 20 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. at the West Waco
Library & Genealogy Center (5301 Bosque Blvd).
State-wide other libraries/societies, 26 plus to date http://bit.ly/2ukKrpU, will be
celebrating with their own events and activities as part of the Genealogy
Network of Texas (GNT). This state-wide initiative to connect libraries /
societies and provide educational and research opportunities for the public is
spearheaded by the Genealogy Center of the Waco-McLennan County Library.
The GNT will provide a series of eight live streamed programs with up-to-date
topics accessible at participating libraries and genealogical societies. See
the “hours hosting” http://bit.ly/2ukKrpU.
Have you participated in a library lock in? What is your favorite memory from it?
Is there a genealogy lock-in coming soon where you live? If so, share the details.
