Today the Digital
Public Library of America will launch
live at noon EST. Unfortunately, due to the recent tragedy in Boston in front
of the Boston Public Library (where the gala launch was to take place), the
scheduled events will not occur though an event is being planned for the fall.
Shortly
after it goes live, I’ll provide comments to this post with any additional news.
Once you get to take a peak, please do post comments about what you found -- the neat, the bizarre, the helpful and the things that made you shout out loud!

local history digital, searchable and accessible -- Seven pilot sites join

Digital Public library NOW live at http://dp.la/. A neat find for NC are maps showing the 1940 Enumeration Districts, as well of descriptions of the enumeration districts as well as many images (new and old).

The Legal Genealogist, Judy G Russell, has a great article about the "limitations" of this "new" library, Public library, not public domain, http://www.legalgenealogist.com/blog/2013/04/19/public-library-not-public-domain/?fb_source=pubv1
ReplyDeleteUpdate -- DPLA partners with David Rumsey Map Collection for metadata of 38,000 maps and images, http://www.libraries.wright.edu/noshelfrequired/2013/04/30/dpla-partners-with-david-rumsey-map-collection-for-metadata-of-38000-maps-and-images/ -- this is wonderful map collection.
