Don't Overlook Alumni Lists & Directories! Besides Identifying Family Members, You Can Learn About University/College Life of That Time!

As with many Upfront with NGS posts, this one started with coming across one resource and then wondering if there were more like it!

Of all places, it started when I stumbled across a webpage on the University of Glasgow (Scotland) where you can search on people associated with the University (Graduates to 1913, WWI & WWII Honor Rolls, etc).

This is not a yearbook (College Yearbooks -- Fun to check out over the holidays for some humorous moments!) and an online, freely available list of alumni. 

Here are some more online and freely available published versions of alumni lists/directories:

- Alumni oxonienses: the members of the University of Oxford, 1715-1886; their parentage, birthplace and year of birth, with a record of their degrees. Being the matriculation register of the University (1888) (via Internet Archive)

- The University of Wisconsin Alumni Directory, 1849-1919

- Cornell alumni directory, containing the foundation, history, and government of the University; the principal alumni organizations; a directory of the alumni (1922) (via Internet Archive)

- Ottawa (KS) University Alumni Directories

Can you add some more examples to our list?

Regardless, though a yearbook may or may not exist or be readily accessible for a local university/college, you maybe find a historic alumni directory (such as those above) where graduates are listed.
