I'd like to see a show (or shows) about Hunting for Heirs -- What do you think?

Many of my professional colleagues are individuals who could be considered “Heir Hunters.” Essentially they are searching for the heirs for an estate in probate where there was no will.

The BBC in the UK has a long-running show called, appropriately enough, Heir Hunters. Unfortunately, those living outside the UK can only access clips and they do at least give you a sense of some of the research they’ve performed.

I so want to see this show!

The premise of looking for heirs at law for an estate can be quite similar to what we seek when trying to identify distant living cousins whether to compare notes with, query about DNA testing, etc. I suspect we could learn quite a bit from such a tv show.

Wouldn’t this be a neat premise for a US show? I am not aware of a show similar to Heir Hunters (BBC) ... are you? Are there other shows with the same premise produced elsewhere?

24 Hours in The Past -- a BBC Living History TV Show involving celebrities

The genealogy community often talks about television programs that are about individuals researching their ancestry (e.g. WDYTYA, Finding Your Roots, Journey to Find Their Roots, Genealogy Roadshow, etc). There is so much we can learn from these programs as we vicariously share in each individual’s journey.

I came across an interesting premise in a relatively new BBC show called 24 Hours in the Past. Per a Wikipedia page about the show, it is described as “Six celebrities were immersed in a recreation of impoverished life in Victorian Britain. Each of the four episodes represented 24 hours living and working in four different occupations.”

In the U.S. we cannot access the full episodes and we can watch quite a few clips.

What time period would you think would make for an interesting historically premised show where celebrities live as their ancestors once did?

If you could watch a day in the life of an ancestor – when and where would that be?

Maybe, in the future, we’ll see familiar celebrities living as those in 24 Hours in the Past are.

CNN Hosts Journey to Find Their Roots -- another genealogy-themed TV series

Starting Sunday, October 12^th, CNN kicks off “Roots: Our Journeys Home,” a week-long series.

Thirteen of the network’s prominent hosts and anchors set out on a journey to find their ROOTS. A project one-year in the making, these journalists embark on an emotional journey across continents as they discover never-before-known details of their family histories.

The full schedule can be found here including details about each person and something about their “roots.” The individuals involved are: Anthony Bourdain, Michaela Pereira, Anderson Cooper, Chris Cuomo, Jake Tapper, Erin Burnett, Don Lemon, Christine Romans, Wolf Blitzer, Sanjay Gupta, Kate Bolduan, John Berman, and Fareed Zakaria.

Season 5 of WDYTYA starts 23 July!

Currently the 2014 FIFA World Cup is keeping many of us glued to our televisions as we watch Soccer (most of the world calls it football). Come 23 July, our genealogical community will turn its collective attention to Season 5 of ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ (on TLC)

This season will features journeys with Valerie Bertinelli, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Lauren Graham, Kelsey Grammer, Cynthia Nixon, Rachel McAdams and her sister, Kayleen McAdams.
