The NGS conference is a great place to meet some of the most
fascinating people. One of those I met
in 2009 was Harvey Wolf of Wolf’s Head Books. For the 2009 conference I was one of the
people responsible for the vendor area. Harvey was a bright spot
amongst the requests for power, services, tables, chairs, complaints and much more!
We talked about food!
Specifically barbecue! He was
polling around the vendor area for those of us living in Raleigh to figure out which place had the
best barbecue so he could go eat there! Though he didn’t think the local establishment
he tried lived up to the hype, he was the one person I looked forward to
talking with each day! He made sitting
at my table “fun” for the duration of the conference.
I was sad to learn, less than a year later, that Harvey had died. Read his obituary here.
And, now, I’ve
learned that Wolf’s Head Books is closing. Read the Sunshine Slate article.
Some people
just touch your life and Harvey
was one of them! His energy, passion and
enthusiasm will not be forgotten.
