That Time of Year Again – Family Tree Magazine’s 101 Best FREE Website for Genealogy in 2017

That Time of Year Again – Family Tree Magazine’s 101 Best FREE Website for Genealogy in 2017

Every year Family Tree Magazine creates a list of 101 Best FREE websites for genealogy.  The list is broken down into categories and these do change somewhat year to year.

The 2017 categories are:

Whether you are new to genealogy or an old hand, these annual lists are always worth checking out.  Sometimes we learn about a website we weren’t familiar with and sometimes we are reminded of a great website that we haven’t visited in a while.

Want to catch up on some of the past lists that you’ve missed?

If you could nominate a FREE website for inclusion … which one would it be?

One I would nominate would be Linkpendium.

Family Tree Magazine Releases List of 101 Best Websites 2016

Family Tree Magazine Releases List of 101 Best Websites 2016

Annually, Family Tree Magazine creates a “best” of list for genealogy websites.  The most recent one is “101 Best Genealogy Websites for Genealogy in 2016.”

Many of the sites listed are for the state archives and/or library or state historical society and there are some other gems listed.

The categories this year are:

As we often mention, even if you have visited a listed website, it might be time to revisit it.  These websites are constantly evolving, making more and more material available to researchers.

Additionally, “new-to-you” websites might be listed for a locale of interest to you.  Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised by being able to access some new resources.

What is your favorite website on this list?
What website do you think is missing from the list?

Family Tree Magazine's 101 Best Websites list of 2014

Family Tree Magazine recently published its annual 101 Best Genealogy Websites (of 2014) list.

I always find these lists a good refresher for the myriad number of websites available to support us as we do family history research.  And, sometimes, I find a website or websites that I am less familiar with and so I’m inspired to do a bit of exploring.

The list is always composed of both FREE and paid premium services.  The list also evolves each year to reflect the every-changing landscape of the types of websites/tools available for genealogists to use.

The list this year is broken into these categories:

If you were making your own personal list of 101 Best Genealogy websites, which ones (not listed) would you add to the list?

101 Best Genealogy and Family History Websites for 2012

Every year, Family Tree Magazine publishes a list of 101 Best Genealogy Websites and I always take a look!  With a steady plethora of new websites, websites disappearing, etc, it’s nice to have such an annual list to allow one to quickly see if some “juicy” new sites are now available to help us with our genealogy and family history research.

Do recognize that there are specific categories (which are not necessarily the same each year) and so all the “great” websites you use may not be listed and, you may meet a “new” best friend!

Now that you’ve checked out the list – who is your new “best friend?”

Family Tree Magazine Posts 101 Best Websites

Each year Family Tree Magazine publishes a list of 101 Best Websites. With all the new online resources that become available, the expansion of existing websites, and the dynamic nature of the web, this list is a nice way to “catch up” on what “some” think are the best websites.  Obviously, any list limited in length (e.g. to 101) does not list a lot of really excellent websites and it’s a place to start if you are overwhelmed by how much is now on the web for genealogy researchers.
The 2011 edition is now available.

This year’s categories are:
