Editor’s Note: The website includes
this warning and it reminds us that it is always important to remember that
historical documents reflect the time period and social conventions of the time
at which they were written. We do not
“rewrite” history, even though we may find it offensive.
This site includes historical materials that may contain offensive
language or negative stereotypes reflecting the culture or language of a
particular period or place. These items are presented as part of the historical
record. Please see Issues of Cultural Sensitivity for more information.
