FamilySearch offers many FREE
courses online that might help you as you dig into your ancestors. With summer upon us, many might have "some" free time to work on genealogy, not just research and becoming more educated about tools, research resources, critical thinking, and more.
One neat online course which caught my eye is titled Rubik’s Cube Genealogy: A New Twist
on Your Old Data
(advanced, 45 minutes, English). It’s given by Elissa Scalisse Powell CG, CGL and
includes a handout.
The description states ...
The three dimensions in genealogy are Name, Time, and Place. You should
be able to pinpoint records for a particular person knowing these three
“coordinates.” As you twist the dimensions in different ways, new or previously
unseen patterns emerge in your family history.
I love the imagery of a Rubik’s Cube! How often do we end up reviewing what we do
know? I am constantly creating timelines
and matrices to try and summarize what I have documented in terms of Time,
Place and Name in new ways with the hopes of seeing overlooked clues, new
patterns, new connections, new rocks to look under, etc. Wouldn’t I love to have a virtual Rubik’s
Cube where I could put key data and then literally “play” with it to see what I’m
missing!

Love the thought about the cube and genealogy. I have a friend's son who was the Rubik's cube champion for a couple of years in a row. Maybe he should start to do genealogy also.
