Back in March a new “Genealogy-focused” search engine, Mocavo, was unveiled.
At the time of its initial release, people either gave it a “thumbs up” or a “thumbs down.” I will admit to being less-than-impressed with my initial forays with it and so was part of the latter group. As a result of that, I delayed letting
NGS members know about it. I wanted to allow some time for it to mature a bit more and expand the underlying pool of web-based genealogical resources. A major expansion recently occurred suggesting that it was now the time to let you all know about it.
As genealogists, we know that it only takes “one” great find to make a tool successful. It seems that some people have made that “great find” using Mocavo; maybe you too will have success!
What is so special about Mocavo.com? Essentially it is a search engine that only looks at genealogy-related web sites. Currently, when you do say a Google search, you are searching essentially “all” of the web. Because of that, as we all know, you get a lot of entries that have nothing to do with genealogy or your family!
By having a search engine dedicated to just genealogy web sites, this eliminates a lot of the garbage sites that come up in our internet searches.
I suggest that you go give it a try for your family! And, if you make a great find, please post a comment here or on FB and let us know!
