Join New York experts Karen Mauer Jones, Terry Koch-Bostic and Jane Wilcox on the Forget-Me-Not Hour Radio Show as they discuss their NY lectures for the NGS Conference in St. Charles, MO on May 14, 2015

Join Jane E. Wilcox, host of The Forget-Me-Not Hour: Your Ancestors Want Their Stories to Be Told radio show, when she welcomes the presenters of the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society-sponsored New York Track at the National Genealogical Society's 2015 family history conference in St. Charles, Missouri. On the show the New York Track lecture team will talk about the exciting lineup of New York genealogy topics at this year’s conference. The radio show airs at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, 1 April at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/janeewilcox/2015/04/01/ngs-st-charles-2015-and-the-new-york-track, and can be listened to on-demand any time afterward.

The New York Track includes Karen Mauer Jones with two topics: New York Land: Patroonships, Manors, Patents, Rent Wars & Land and Records Created by New York’s Towns and Cities: Uncommonly Rich Resources; Terry Koch-Bostic with City Directories: Antiquarian People Finders; and radio show host Jane Wilcox with two topics: The New York Gateway: Immigration and Migration and New York City and State Vital Records and Their Substitutes. Terry Koch-Bostic will also give the NYG&B Luncheon talk Intuition and Genealogy Success: A Sixth Sense, Chance, Coincidence, or Serendipity? The New York Track and Luncheon take place on Thursday, 14 May.

Find out what each of the presentations is all about on Wednesday, 1 April on The Forget-Me-Not Hour, and then join the presenters at the St. Charles Conference Center in St. Charles, Missouri on 13-16 May 2015.

Begun in November 2010 on WHVW 950 AM radio in Poughkeepsie, the Forget-Me-Not Hour features two one-hour shows each month with one on New York-area genealogy and history topics and one on a variety of genealogy and history topics. The New York show airs on the first Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at www.BlogTalkRadio.com/JaneEWilcox. The variety show airs on the third Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Both shows can be accessed on-demand any time after the show airs. The program schedule and archives can be found on BlogTalk.

Forget-Me-Not Hour radio program interviews 2014 NGS Award of Merit recipients -- Italian Genealogy Group and German Genealogy Group NY Indexing Projects

Don Eckerle of the German Genealogy Group (GGG) and John Martino of the Italian Genealogy Group (IGG) will join host Jane E. Wilcox on the Forget-Me-Not Hour radio show on Wednesday, 6 August at 10:00 a.m. Eastern. 

Don and John will talk about the mammoth indexing projects their groups took on when they decided to tackle Long Island records and then New York City vital records and then NARA NYC records and then some more. Don and John will discuss what records they have done, what records they intend to do, and what the differences in their groups' databases are. They will also tell us how they manage their indexing projects with more than 2,000 volunteers. They'll share interesting stories from their indexing and tell us about unusual records or people that they came across in the records. 


In May 2014 at the National Genealogical Society's annual family history conference held in Richmond, Virginia, Don, John and their GGG partner Bob Boeckle received the National Genealogical Society's Award of Merit in recognition of exceptional contributions to the field of genealogy.

Wednesday Night: Meet NYG&B’s New York Experts to Talk About the NGS Conference


Join Jane E. Wilcox, host of The Forget-Me-Not Hour: Your Ancestors Want Their Stories to Be Told radio show, when she welcomes the presenters of the New York Genealogical & Biographical-sponsored New York Track at the National Genealogical Society’s 2014 Family History Conference in Richmond, Virginia. On the show, the New York Track lecture team will talk about the exciting lineup of New York genealogy topics at this year’s conference. The radio show airs at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, 19 March 2014, at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/janeewilcox/2014/03/20/ny-track-at-ngs-richmond-2014, and can be listened to on-demand any time afterward.

The New York Track includes Naomi Joshi on “Navigating the Past: Gazetteers and Genealogists,” Terry Koch-Bostic with two topics: “Misspelled, Misunderstood or Deliberate? Are Your New York Ancestors’ Records Hidden Under a Surname Variation?” and “Upside Down Migration: South Carolina to Nova Scotia to New York,” Joan Koster-Morales on “New York’s Confederate Prisons: Elmira and New York City,” and radio show host Jane Wilcox on “Looking for Your New York Tenant Farmer: Little-Used Resources.” Naomi will also give the NYG&B Luncheon talk on “How to Assemble a Weighty Genealogical Tome and Survive the Experience!” The New York Track and Luncheon take place on Thursday, 8 May.

New York City, Long Island and Westchester Co. Research with Laura Murphy DeGrazia on The Forget-Me-Not Hour radio show -- Tomorrow Night!


New York City, Long Island and Westchester Co. Research with Laura Murphy DeGrazia on The Forget-Me-Not Hour radio show. Host Jane E. Wilcox welcomes Laura Murphy DeGrazia on 7 August at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. Laura will talk about her new book NGS Research in the States Series: New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County. As those of us with pre-1880 New York research can attest, New York state is a challenge for researching. Find out from Laura what resources are available in the counties in and closest to New York City. You may find some gems that you had not thought about.


Laura Murphy DeGrazia, CG, FGBS, is co-editor of the New York Genealogical & Biographical Record and trustee and past president of the Board for Certification of Genealogists. Born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, she specializes in research in the New York City area.

December Programs -- The Forget-Me-Not Hour on WHVW radio -- Poughkeepsie NY Area

7 December: Behind the Scenes on TV and David Rambo. David Rambo, the former producer of the hit TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, joins Jane to talk about the behind-the-scenes development of and writing scripts for fictional TV shows and his work on CSI and as a playwright using history as inspiration. This show airs live at on WHVW 950 AM radio in Poughkeepsie and is rebroadcast at on www.BlogTalkRadio.com/JaneEWilcox that evening.

21 December: Hereditary Societies. Sandra MacLean Clunies, a professional genealogist, author, lecturer and member of such hereditary societies as the Daughters of the American Revolution  and Hereditary Order of the Families of the Presidents and First Ladies of America, will tell us what these societies are all about and how you, too, could become a member of one. 4 January 2012: County Clerks and Nina Postupack. Clerk Nina Postupack joins Jane on tonight's show. Nina will tell us what a New York state county clerk does and what historical records are in their keep. She'll also tell us what Ulster County in particular has in store for genealgists at the County Office Building and the Records Center.
