The following NGS positions are open for election at the Annual Members Meeting at the NGS Annual Conference to be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday, May 7, 2016:

  • President
  • Vice-president
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
Terms for officers run from 1 October 2016 through 30 September 2018.

  • Director, Region 3
  • Director, Region 4
  • Director at Large (two positions open)
Terms for directors run from 1 October 2016 through 30 September 2020.

For purpose of the election of directors, the United States is divided into four regions, along state boundary lines, which have been designated as Regions 1, 2, 3 and 4.  Regional directors must be residents of the region which they are elected to represent.  All members of NGS have the right to vote for all regional directors.  Only the Regional Director positions for Regions 3 and 4 are open for election.  A PDF of a map showing the four regions is available on the
NGS website.  In addition, two Director at Large positions are open for election.

The NGS Nominating Committee, whose members are Barbara Vines Little (Chair), Victor S. Dunn, Janet A. Alpert, Nicki Peak Birch, & Barbara Renick, invites NGS members to submit recommendations in writing to the committee for consideration.  Members who wish to suggest a possible candidate for an office should send their recommendations to the NGS Nominating Committee chair at
nominations2016@ngsgenealogy.org or via U.S. Mail to 3108 Columbia Pike, Suite 300, Arlington, VA 22204-4370.  To be considered for the 2016 election, recommendations must be received before 19 February 2016 and should include the potential candidate's name, a brief biography, and contact information.

Candidates must have been a member of NGS for at least one full year prior to nomination.

The NGS Board of Directors is a working board.  Board members spend on the average of twenty or more hours a month in a variety of activities.  Each member is expected to either chair a committee or actively participate on one or more committees.  Board members pay their own expenses (travel, food and lodging) to the three board meeting held each year.  Board meetings are typically held at the annual conference (usually the day before the conference), and at the NGS headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, and in Salt Lake City.  Additional meetings are held as needed by conference call.  Attendance at the annual conference is also expected.
