Serendipity: It's a Wonderful World

There was a genealogy colleague and friend of mine who always referred to “Sarah N Dipity” or serendipity as being a key element of our genealogy research!

So, you can imagine my delight when I saw this Ancestry Insider post on this topic!

Have you experienced some great serendipity in your genealogy research? Please share!

  1. I had not been able to find my husband's ancestor Thomas Smith in the 1880 census in either Indiana where he was from or in Arkansas where his daughter married in 1883. One day I typed into the Ancestry.com search engine the information I had. Before I finished the dryer sounded and I hit send before adding a location. When I came back from hanging up the clothes, there was Thomas Smith and family living in eastern Kansas, of all places! His occupation listed him as "in transit."

I certainly was not expecting to find Thomas in my own backyard.
